I got into playhouses after building my children one that has a loft, electrical lights and outlets as well as real windows and a door. It matches our house. With my background in carpentry, I decided to make some extra Christmas money and build them for sale. I built two in 2004 and again in 2005. Things really began taking off in 2006 and now, Starting 2007, I am wondering how I will keep up. I sure expect this will be one of the ways I finance my retirement. I do enjoy them, each one is special and a labor of love.
Sierra was a big help on the last playhouse I built and Meredith did help with the staining. They all assisted me in painting the others. I may have to start having them assemble playhouses I have cut out while I am at work.
"Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain."
Psalm 127:1
This playhouse made two little boys in Bedford NY very happy. It belongs to one of Martha Stewart's neighbors. There is a real story behind this one that you have to hear. It is special because it was my first one.

This playhouse is making two little girls in Charlotte NC very happy. It is made from real oak and pine siding. It has an example of three types of traditional Appalachian sidings, lap in the back, shakes on the sides and board and baton on the front. Photo is prior to completion of construction
This playhouse has a loft over the porch and part of the room. It was built to order so it would fit in the bed of a full size pickup. It is making a little Girl in Sylva NC very happy. Bethany painted the CareBear in the window over the porch. This one is special because the design was totally out of my minds eye and Bethany's art work.
I was able to construct this one the week of Christmas and it was delivered on Christmas Eve. Thanks to my sister, Ernie, for loaning me her basement to work in.
This one was lined on the inside
Eric from Cherokee NC came early on Christmas eve to pick up this Christmas present for his daughter Emily
On its way to making Emily a very happy little girl on Christmas morning. It was faced and stained to match Emily's real home.
Me burning the midnight oil at 1:30 am finishing a playhouse to take to the Scarecrow Festival at 7:00 am the same day.
The playhouse was finished in time and featured in the Sourwood Knoll booth at the 2006 Buncombe County Scarecrow Festival at Lake Julian
Some features were left off but could be added for a fee.
Shutters, porch rails, window pane dividers etc are all possible.
The house was built to appear like a rustic cabin
A feature which was VERY popular with kids at the festival was the dry erase board which covers the back wall inside.
Real White cedar boards were used in the board and batten siding. They can be painted or stained to order for a fee or you can do that yourself.
At Bethany's suggestion, I added porch rails to the above house and it really did make it look cute.
Lynn and Kristie of Asheville purchased this one for Olivia, Sophie Grace and Zeb to enjoy.
It will be at their home in time for Christmas
With a nice coat of paint, it will look more like this on Christmas morning.

This playhouse, ordered by Cathy in Reynolds Mountain area of Woodfin NC for Olivia, was delivered on a very dreary and rainy day. The playhouse seemed to brighten up Olivia's day a bit and probably her Christmas season too.
This playhouse was custom ordered for her children by Lori in New York. It only lacks some trim, painting and window panes/trim.
The playhouse will be ready in June to meet Lori and her family when they move into their new house in Bostic NC. This playhouse has fully lined paneled interior, dry erase board on the back wall, electric overhead lights with wall switch and will have shutters, plexiglas window panes, and additional trim features like the heart shaped cut outs in the porch railing.
Trim is done and waiting for Lori to move from NY to NC
In the background is a play house built for the Buncombe County Beekeepers. They are selling raffle tickets for $1 per chance.
The beekeeper raffle is going to make some child very happy
